Heat Flamed Ti Finish on Strider

Hi everyone, been lurking here for a couple of years and finally decided to post a question. I'm thinking of buying myself a Strider SNG for Christmas and was wondering if the heat flamed finish wears off the titanium easily? I'm trying to decide between the flamed or stone washed finish. I plan on using it and I don't want something that will look like crap after a couple months of pocket wear. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the feedback, that's what I was thinking. If it is truly a flamed finish it could be polished away. I have never actually held one, so I wasn't sure.

The stone washed shows very little wear. I edc'd one for a few years and aside from sharpening, it barely looked used. Never owned a flamed one though.

The flamed doesnt wear that much and when it finally does (after years of use) it looks really neat anyways, get the one that speaks to you the most :)

I have a heat flamed Ti pocket clip on a knife that I use as a money clip for the last couple years and rides at the bottom of a pocket every day. Except for the very edges which have been polished, the color is basically intact. Can't speak about Strider or a knife that is actually clipped to a pocket and away from other hard objects. The heat creates an oxide layer that has a thickness to it and acts like a prism to give the color. The thickness of the oxide layer determines the color in that spot. So as it wears it should change colors some before the color completely goes away. I would also think it could be sent in to Strider and have it redone. But I haven't heard the best things about their warranty department. But I won't get into that or my feelings about the company. Maybe you can call and ask but I bet it holds up pretty well. That said, I would think a stone wash finish would hold up to wear the best.

It doesn't wear off easily. The titanium side is what's against the side of your pocket. The G10 side is the side susceptible to getting scratched from car keys and such.

I've seen tons of WELL used Striders with flamed Ti and it's pretty obvious that it stays in tact.
Of course it gets scratched up, but not enough to remove the treatment.
I would get the flamed Ti for sure. It looks badass.

No problems with the flame finish after 8 years of daily use and carry. Look in the for sale threads at users. They are all in great shape usually. I don't like the high visibility of the stonewash, but that's just a personal preference.

What???? The flamed titanium finish does NOT wear off. If anything it hides wear marks over time better than any other finish. I have owned over a dozen Striders from old to new and the colors in the titanium finish can be brought out even more with a Mr Clean magic eraser.
Strider's warranty will take care of anything you can do to the knife.
This is a older SNG CC.

The clip typically shows the most wear since it resides outside the pocket. The scales will start to show wear on the edges first.

Wow, thanks for all the feedback everyone. Alright, I'm not worried about the flamed ti finish anymore. I'll do what Bluegrodin said and buy the one that appeals to me the most.

I don't own a Strider myself but with experience in ti and such, the flaming should not wear OFF. Especially not easily. It will wear and get marks/scratches on it over time but not too easily. The flaming should wear much less compared to say the blasting on a CRK. But I love that on titanium knives anyways. My CRK Large Sebenza 21 has a whole bunch of marks all over the handles and it looks beautiful. I love when a knife starts to get marks and wear because it shows it's been used and loved.

Ive flamed many knives and the finish is durable as anything.

The only way to get it off is to use an abrasive.

I used this particular one a lot and it looks like it did on day one. although I do carry In waste band

Edit reread the post. the flaming strider does from factory is even more durable than the color anodizing done on my knife. you will like the flamed look and function better

That looks pretty dang good wolf! Did you do that with a torch? Looks like the natural discoloration that occurs on ti exhaust pipes that gives them their unique appearance.
