I am just learning to make knives and was given some ATS-34 to play with. I have made a knife out of it, now I need it heat treated. The tool room guys at work said they would do it for me I just got to tell them how. I now it willn't be as good as if I send it off to be done, but this is my first real knife, still learning alot.(I have made some out of files but there all I did was temper it in my oven and left it hard so I did not need to heat treat it)

It would only cost you a few bucks to have a professional heat treater do it. But if you must have these guys do it, you could take it up to 1975F, air quench, cool in dry ice and acetone for 6 hours take it up to 325F, air cool and take it up to 325F again. I think that would do it. I am sure you will get other opinions.

Thanks for the info. After I get a little better I will have it done by a professional heat treater, but for now I think this will work.
