Someone on this forum or other mentioned a Turkey Baster for heat treating.
I got one on Sale for $30.00 at Sears. It's a Rival Brand and comes with a little crock pot thingy you can give to the wife.

hmm i always thought a turkey baster was the thing that was used to suck the juice from the pan and drizzle it back over the turkey??.

I thought the same. From the sounds of it, he's talking about a crockpot or some such.

Turkey baster is for basting - a giant eye dropper !! A pot for deep fat frying a turkey could be used for holding and heating your quenching oil.

OK, so it's a "Roaster Oven". You cook turkeys and knife blades in it.

OK - now its a little clearer - but the idea of using it for heat teating still isn't so clear. You could use it for quenching a hot blade - perhaps even for tempering - but I can't imagine using it to get a blade up to hardening heat. If it's just to hold quenching oil warm, I think they have them at Wal-Mart for about $10.

Can you be a little more specific about what 'heat treating' you want to do with the "roaster Oven"? Also, is it just the pot - or a propane turkey deep fryer - or a new version of the toaster oven?

Rob!

Ok, I should have been more specific. Though it was here that I originally saw the idea. I'd heard it was great for edge quenching in hot oil. Although good for quenching the whole blade. It will adjust from 0 to 450 degrees so I imagine it would work well for tempering after the quench. I'd like more info on that. It's 20 qts. and will take 18" of blade from corner to corner. Course it has a top in case of flame up. I haven't used it as yet, but it should beat the hot plate and vertical pipe I've been using for a standard quench and allow me to just do the edge if wanted.
For $30.00 on sale how can you go wrong? Don't know if all Sears stores have it, but worth a look if it's something you can use.

Hope this explains it better.
