Heat treat foil recommendations?

First time buying heat treat foil. I'm making some steak knives out of aeb-l. Does anyone have any recommendations on the type or where to get it. Wasn't expecting it to be so expensive! Thanks.

Edit: I finally found a thread after searching for 321 vs 309 foil. It looks like 309 is what most people use at it has a higher temperature threshold. If anyone cares to add where they prefer to buy, please do. Otherwise, I think I found my answer.

We use both. 321 for aebl as it’s not at temp long enough to usually cause an issue. But 321 works real good for low temp stuff like A2 and D2. 309 is our go to foil for most everything. We go through a TON of foil and if price is not a concern then go 309. We get all our rolls 20” wide and 100ft long and keep one full roll of each on hand at all times. Here is a few weeks of heat treating.

i bought mine at Jantz, but yeah 309. I’ve heat treated aeb-L, A2, cpm-154, 3v, and probably a couple more. I’ll buy a bigger roll next time.

For high alloy I use both 309 foil from TruGrit (bought a big role of it) and Condursal Z1100 protective painting, both works great but I prefer the foil since the paint require the clean the blade really well and I'm lazy :D

I would recommend 309 over 321 not just because it can operate at much higher temp but also there will be more chance for 321 to welded stick to your blade due to the lower temperature resistance.

The only thing I use 309 on is CPM M4. 321 will work fine for AEB-L and will not stick. 321 is considerably cheaper than 309. I buy rolls of it from allfoil.com. 321 will work for most of your air hardening steels.
