heat treat my tool

who should i use to heat reat my tool? it's 440c and i'm in sacramento california.
thanks guys
 
There used to be a heat treater in palo alto. Been a few years, do a yellow pages search and you should be able to find them of they are still there. If you don't care if you mail things off then Paul Bos and Texas Knifemakers supply both do a great job.

I'm going to use that line on the women folk at the bar this weekend and see how many times I get slapped!

I just got my first batch of knives back. I'm here in Houston (driving distance to Texas Knife Maker's supply). I had them treat three blades in ATS-34, and I'm quite pleased with how they came out. I also had some blades in O1 tool steel. Since Texas Knifemaker Supply doesn't deal with O1, I found JMA Heat Treat here in town. I'd prepared myself just in case my first batch came back a crinkled up mess. The reverse was true, everything came back bead blasted, and looking pretty spiffy. I also got my test results prooving that they had achieved RC60 hardness after treatment.

The only down side to JMA is that they have a minimum which is equivilant to about 100 blades. Great if you are doing production, a bit much if you are a hobbiest, but good work either way.
 
I heat treated my tool by accident once, and its been rock-hard ever since.
