You will get more responses in the makers area. If I remember correctly from class. You can mess up the tempering first. Then heat treat if you get it too hot. You’d want to keep the blade cool. Dunking in water to cool it when it gets warm to the touch.

Phil, you can do some shaping on it and dunk it often in cold water. Hopefully, you don't need to do a lot of grinding on the thick
parts of the knife. DM
