Looking for heat treat recommendations for 1075. I've seen austenitizing temperature recommendations from 1500 to 1650*F. I'm not finding consistent info on tempering temps either.. Targeting 59-60 HRC. From what I gather 1075 has a higher austenitizing temp than say 1080/4 and 1095.. probably due to the lower carbon content.

Guidance appreciated.

Give it the old 1500/400 treatment and go from there. Kevin Cashen's website says that at 1500F, he gets up to 65Rc as quenched with 1080 and 60-61 at 400F. Is your 1075 Aldo stuff?

Agreed.

Everyone has already said but yea, same thing we always used on Aldo's stuff. worked very well.

actually I don't know where it was purchased. a buddy bought some for a sword project about 7-8 years ago and gave me a bar of it. it is 3/8" thick.

Actually, in my experience, the Admiral 1075/80 is decent stuff. I used some of it early on. Cliff Parker used it for his damascus last time I asked him. I think they had problems with their 5160 as a number of folks did, plus there was that whole "L6 substitute" thing.
