heat treat

ok gettin ready for heat treat. ive got to drill holes and then im ready. I have a question. When i heat treat it, do i need to have the whole knife, handle and all get red hot or just the blade? whats the best choice.

Don't be too anxious to heat treat that blade just yet. Its a little more involved than red hot. No, you do not have to harden the entire blade - tang and all. My very first question when I found this forum was "can I heat treat ATS-34 in my camp fireplace hot coals and quench in water". Check out Mete's write-up about heat treating on Dan Grays site.
