Here's what a piece of S30V folder blade looks like after tempering at 2320 degrees for a half hour. I didn't program the furnace right and wanted to temper it at 450. Well technically it did and then ramped to max temp the furnace would go for who knows how long before I caught it. A third of the blade simply crumbled away into a black dust. This is what is left. I re-read the instructions on programming the set-pro on the furnace and it works fine now. It did then too I guess...

Sorry man,that is BAD NEWS.
I had the temperature control jam on a enameling job for a diamond ring.By the time I noticed,I had a puddle of molten gold with frosted diamonds swimming on it.

I have a new oven sitting in my shop right now with the set-pro, haven't started to try and run it yet, probably can't.

Hey Robert, the setpro is easy to use if you actually read the directions and pay at least a bit of attention to them. I just wasn't thinking quite right when I did the initial program. Just keep in mind that one segment includes ramp rate, ramp hold temp and time of hold at temp and that if you set a lower temp of all 0's, it will go to max temp. ATS34 for example has two segments, one segment to ramp to and hold, another ramp up to austenize temp and hold and then it's done and shuts off.
I do need to construct a better wind tunnel for air quenching though. Right now I'm using a big box fan and it isn't that efficient at cooling things down quickly.
