I'm making a much larger version of the "Pocket Fighter" and I'm wondering about the heat treat. The thing is thin, long, and pointy. Should I clay-bake and run the clay fairly low on the blade? I want a lot of "springyness" because of the thinness.

any suggestions?

BTW, the edge is 9 inches long out of 3/16s 0-1. It's hollow-ground out of a 10-inch wheel with a high grind.

Michael,

If its got a sharpened top clip, then I would clay coat it so I could harden the top and bottom cutting edges and leave the center between the clip and the cutting edge soft. If it doesn't have a clip I would edge quench.

It doesn't have a sharpened clip, but it's got some good recurve going on it, so I don't know how well an edge-quench would work.
