Heat treating a pommel

I am working on a blade that has an exposed pommel (like a Ka-Bar BK style pommel). I am a noob and am wondering about how to go about heat treating this (and if it's possible with my setup). I have a mini forge so is it advisable to heat the blade, quench then heat the pommel, quench and then temper? Or will that ruin the integrity of the blade treatment?

HT the blade but keep the tang soft.
Put on the guard and handle, HT the pommel and attach it to the exposed tang at the but end of the handle. Peen it on place. (Threats work good as well)

Thank you for the info - I guess I misrepresented what I am attempting to do. The 'pommel' is actually the exposed tang. So it's all one piece. I'm going to trim and finish my scales to keep the last bit of the tang exposed on the butt end. But I would like to harden the butt end of the tang. So I am wondering if I HT the blade first, then turn the whole thing around and HT the little bit of exposed tang, if that will be OK. Or will that cause problems with the HT due to taking to long to temper?

Just heat the whole thing evenly, and quench it all in one go. Temper it in an oven and you're good.
No reason to make it difficult.
