Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Thor: Hardening Temp. 1700- 1800 Deg. F. Hold for aprox. 20 Min. @ temp. Air quench under fan. Cool to room temp. Temper @ 400 deg. F. for aprox. 60\62 R\C. 500 deg. F. for 59\60 R\C. You can use foil, Put a small pc. of burlap or brown papper in with blade to burn out Oxy. When Quenching take blade out of foil. Hope this helps you . Paul.

Paul,
I absolutely defer to your vast experience regarding the real world accuracy of this statement, but the Crucible literature also indicates that A2 is one of the tool steels that most benefits from a cryo treatment.

Paul Bos usually cryo's the stuff. I'm guessing he didn't include it as he probably didn't know if you have the equipment or not.

Bronco: Your absolutely right, I should have included that process. Cryo treatment on tool steels should be done between 1st. and 2nd. tempers. Paul.

Ahh, heck. Just send them to Bos! He does a great job and no worries! I sent him my first 2 from A2 and they are incredible! I should be getting back my next batch of 7 from him any day now and can't wait!!
