Is it possible to harden A2 by quenching in oil? If so what is the procedure? Or is this steel strickly air hardening? Thanks

I don,t know what an oil quench will do but I know it is not necassary. A2 will harden just fine if you simply let it air cool. no extra work just take it out of the oven and place it some where to cool off. I have found that A2 that has been rapidly quenched has a tendence to be more brittle than A2 that is slow cooled even at the same hardness. I don't know why. The test knives I made were pretty much the same. (thickness, grind type ect).

"airkool" says it all (where the "A" comes from, more or less)

It's ease of heat treatment is one of the big selling points for this steel.
