Heat treating and handle wrapping

This is my first post on this board. I have been intrested in making knives for a long time and after I have been let down by most of the blades I have bought over the years my girlfriend has lit a fire under my a$$ to start making some knives. I was wondering if anyone could recomend somewhere to send a blade off to get heat treated, and if anyone had any hints on japanese cord wrapping a handle. Thanks again.
