My knife was treated by Paul Bos (thanks!) I was wondering out of interest what this involves?

This knife is really tough and holds one heck of an edge. Its a Doug Mondt 10" spearpoint.

Thanks for the time,:)

Hi General,
First let me say that I enjoyed your original post, and I am
happy for you that you are please with your knife and your
choice of steel.
Gee, I was hoping that Paul Bos would answer you. Anyway, here
is what the Crucible book says.
Furnace- Salt, Vacuum, or Atmosphere
Pre heat to 1500 - 1550 F
High heat to 2050 F
Quench- Salt,Oil, or Atmosphere to 1000F - 1100F air cool to
below 125 F
Temper at least two times at 1050 F
I have heard that When Paul uses their process that the steel
is a little harder than they say.

General: Sorry I did not get back with an answer to your question sonner, I dont have much time for computers now days. Thanks Don for helping me out.Dons right I had to drop the austinizing temp. down a bit and temper highter. Your blades were tempered @ 1050 Deg. F. Held for 2 hrs. @ temp. 3 times. If I remember right they came out R\C-59.5 , Hope that is satisfactory. Paul

Ya gotta love a guy that can narrow your blade hardness down to within half a Rockwell point and then ask ya if thats ok! :)
