heat treating D2

I'm making a knife for my father for Christmas (my first completed knife) and I need to know how to HT it (not enough time to send it out). It's going to be a 4" kitchen knife, 1/8" thick. I need to know if I can do it with a propane torch (no forge) or do i have to get my oven working. Please post the HT specs and any torch procedures you feel would work.

No you can't do it with a torch.See www.crucibleservice.com for instructions. D2 is too complex a steel to do it with anything but a proper oven. A simple steel like 5160 you might do with a oxy-acetylene ( not propane) torch.
