Does anyone do heat treating or know of anyone in or near PA that does heat treating on knives. I have my first knife (stock removal) all ground out and ready for heat treat I just don't have the proper equipment or facilities to do it myself.

thanks for your help

Peters Heat Treating is in PA. I think you'll find they have earned a nice reputation for themselves.

215 Race St., Meadville, PA 16335

For those in PA or anywhere else, Peters is the place to send your knives if you don't do your own heat treat.

Brad Stallsmith runs the cutlery department. Contact him to touch base and introduce yourself. He'll take excellent care of your blades!

Another vote for Peter's. Brad does excellent work, and is a great guy to deal with.

I did find Peter's online when I did a search but wasn't sure of quality or pricing (since i am just getting one done). But the crowd seems to be unanimous in that they are the people to talk to. Does anyone know if they are able to HT to your specs or do they have there own proprietary HT process/hardness?

Brad will do whatever you ask him to, but I have found that he usually knows better :)

I don't see W-1 on their list I guess I'll just have to call them and see if they can/will work with that steel.

Peter's Heat Treat will do an exceptional job for you, and they are great to deal with.

What part of Pa are you in Bare Rib?

Brad fixed (annealed, straightened and rehardened) a warped blade that someone else sent back to me bent like a banana.

Brad is awesome! He is my go to man for all my knives. He makes everything so much easier for me.

Yep, Peters is tops! That said , look around for a local maker who may help you out. $70 (or whatever the charge is) is a lot of cash for one blade.
Where are you in Pa???

yep where are you as i could most likely help you out
did i read right that the blade is W1 (that way i dont have to refill my LN2 yet

i will be working up a batch of knives in the next week or so that are getting all heat treated one day (if the kilns hot i might as well toss one more in there )

If you have questions, call and talk to Brad. He is a great guy and the work is superlative. He does all my heat treating.

If that is there rate for a single blade it's a bit salty for me at this time.

Yes it is W1 or at least that is the closest thing to it according to Nicolson File Co. I would be happy to send it to you if you would be willing to do the heat treat for me. Just send me an address and how much for you to do it.

To all my fellow PAers who asked I'm in the Central PA area.

i use to live in the state collage area but now im just south of Gettysburg (illl look at how soon i am to HT and keep you in line )

crap i jsut saw that since i left my knife maker regestration laps i dont have a sig line anymore (guess i need to re up that at some point )

Im in the same boat as the this guy here

i just started and i have 2 blades so far but i want them heat treated now so i can start working on them

anyone have any idea how much 1-2 blades cost to be treated?

its 1084 and they are both about 7 inches and both less than an inch wide
