Heat treating Nighthawk and real walnut on 819 signature series

Hi there!

Here a question all the way (one click) from The Netherlands....
A few months ago I ordered, as a true Buck-fan, the 819 Signature Series, the Alpha Hunter ATS with rosewood scales and the Nighthawk. (yeah, I deserved it!:D )

First a question about the scales of the 819, is this genuine walnut (the certificate says "fancy walnut handle" or some other material which looks like walnut? I'm asking this because because it looks a bit artificial, a bit to smooth to be true....

Both the 819 as the Alpha Hunter have a Bos heath-treat sign (the flame) on their blades, the Nighthawk hasn't. Does this mean that the Nighthawk gets another heath-treatment, do I own an unique knife (buck has forgotten to stamp it, or does it get no heath-treatment at all?? (I can't imagine really, because afterall 420 steel is a martensic steel) Also when you look at the Buck site, it says at stel specifics about 420 steel: "IF heat-treated.....etc." This could mean IMO we don't give al the 420-ies a heat-treatment.

Ok, hope to get an answer from you guys soon!

Ad58, according to Buck they only stamp(or etch) the Bos flame on their premium steels like S30V, BG-42 and ATS34. There were a few 118's in D-2 made, but I don't know they carry the "Bos logo". If a knife is without, then it's 420.Some of Bucks newer imports are 440C, but only marked with "China".
Different types of steel require different heat treatments.Buck heat treats all their knives.Your 819 is a quality knife with real walnut handles.I hope this helps.

Ok, Scott, loud and clear, this helps. BTW, I see in your adress your a knifemaker?? Interesting, do you have some pics or a link??? I'm curiuos and it feels good to hear that a knifemaker says the 819 is a quality knife....

Thnx pal!
