i just finished just about everything for my o-1 kiridashi (Styled) knife.

I am really curious about heat treating it. Can i do it in a campfire or a wood burning stove?

The stock is 3/16 of an inch wide and the knife itself is about 6 inches long ( i don't have anything to measure it at the time) o do i wait until it's bright cherry red and wont attract a magnet? How long do i keep it it cherry red? I also have no idea how to quench it and what to use, How much etc....

I know, i am a total noob when it comes to heat treating and such but you guys really know your stuff.

Thanks for all the answers and advice.

You can get a decent (or half-assed depending on who you ask) heat-treat with O1 and no quality, controlled heat source.

In my personal experience, not just on paper... an O1 blade needs to soak at temp in an accurately controlled heat source, to achieve its max potential as a knife.

I'm feeling really nice right this second, and if you send it to me and pay shipping here and back, I'll heat-treat it for you with digitally controlled equipment and commercial quench oil.

:)

The correct answer and a great display of generosity.:)

That is an offer of a life-time from a true gentleman.

Wow. You just made my day, well, actually, you made my month.

I really appreciate this, Nick. I need to drill the other rivet hole and touch up a few things and then i will ship it to you along with a little token of my appreciation.

It will be pretty cool to tell my buddys that my knife was professionally heat treated instead of in my wood burning stove.

I'm not really a gentleman... or anything close, it's just that sometimes I have a moment of weakness in my daily a**hole routine. :foot: ;) :D

Naw son, you are a gentleman. I have said it before, and I will say it again, "It is refreshing to see a young man with your talent that is so willing to share knowledge and techniques as you do". (Well, maybe I didn't say it just like that, but that is what I meant)
