The question at hand is the size limit of blades that can be done this way. At what point is the blade so long/wide that the heat is not sufficient to raise the temperature of the entire edge at once.

Excellent. Have you ever tried it on a chisel ground blade? The little utility knife I have in mind has a chisel ground blade about 2.5 inches long. Just wondering if warpage would be a factor, or overheating of the edge.

I have done a 12 inch bowie blade no prblem. I also used this method on a rope cutting knife. Blade is ten inches with a chisel grind. It pulled a little but I was able to straighten it with no problems. You shouldn't have any trouble with a two and a half inch blade unless it is vey thin.
