Hi
Got a knife that is real soft .Maybe just mild steel or un treated steelit is a gurka blade.I would like to ""harden it some "" Prob is I cannot get the handle off.It is a anlter handle that was put on with fiberglass.
The handle is MUCH nice than the knive.
Can I just Tortch Treat the blade? getting
the edge hot 900+ dregg and droping it in water.
Any help would be great
Thanks
Chris

Most of those tourist pieces are junk steel that can't be hardened, or such has always been my understanding.

If it is a good steel though, you're looking at 1450-1560F or around there to get it hardened, and then have to temper at a minimum of 360F(those are temperatures for AISI O1 tool steel, but gives you an idea), as you can see, heats like that are gonna kill the antler.

HHHMMMM I was hoping that was not the case
I wonder if I can get the antler off.Would finger nail polish remover do it? I see a bunch of these Gurks for sale cheap all the time Now I know why....I picked it up because it was cheap and the handle looked good .Took it out and wacked a branch a couple of times and ....dull knive...
Maybe I need to get one of thoese H.I.
Thanks
Chris

DEFINITELY get an HI.

That' being said, boiling water will probaly get the glue hot enough to remove the antler. THat's hwo I removed handles from my two HI's
