BG-42 is hardening at 2050°F(1121°C)
My question; is hardening at 2192°F(1200°C) possible too?
Which result is to be expcted?

Mic, you might want to post this in Shop Talk. Paul Bos and others frequent that forum and have heat treating expertise. You might also want to expand your question to include information on why you would want to go to a higher temp when the lower temp is more practical.

I think Paul Bos and some others could answer this more accurately, but I think the heat treat foil wrap only goes up to a certain temp before melting and burning up. This temp you are talking about might be pretty close to being too high for the foil wrap.

Mic,
Technically, yes, you can harden the material at that heat, but I would seriously avoid it. Going to 2192°F with BG-42 may be a bad idea. That is, if you simply plan on making this the austenitizing temp for subsequent hardening. Doing so, may create a coarser grain. You will likely get a very high hardness though, but again it may be somewhat coarse and quenching may create a host of end problems for you. If you must, use a short soak like 5-10 minutes. Overall, I wouldn't do it though. Hope that helps.
