Heat Treatment Furnace Update (pics)

I mentioned a while back that I was working on a home-built heat treatment furnace. Well, after that, there was a bit of a delay while I debated whether to purchase refractory bricks from a local supplier that I found or from Darren Ellis. In the end, I decided on the latter, since I also needed some of the Inswool he sells. For the sake of newbies like me, Mr. Ellis' website is http://refractory.elliscustomknifeworks.com/ and it has just about everything you could possibly need for a forge or furnace project.

So anyway, here are pics of my progress so far.

The case: angle iron, steel sheet and plenty of rivets. Note that I did not yet attach the top 4 pieces of angle iron. Those come last.

This is the case with a 2'x4' piece of Inswool stuck inside.

Here, the Inswool has been cut to size:

Two pics of how I laid the bricks:

Here, I've cut the bricks to size.

I've also already drilled holes in the back for a pair of 4" bolts that will serve as electrodes and I'm currently cutting out the slots for the heating elements. More pics to come!

Boy Yuri that is really looking good to me. The only thing I might recommend at this point, from pictures only, is to square up the bricks and forget the overlay. You might sacrifice a little chamber width but brick heat consistancy and machanical stabilty is where my concern is there.

Really looks like a top notch idea to me. AND ....., yes indeed - Darren is a fine feeler to deal with. I endorse him completely, both here and on my home page.
