Hi, newby here but I'm 72. I have read all posts I can find, bought some 01 ( but made error of buying 3/16" and thing its a little too thick for my first knife. Now my son-in-law just told me the company he works for is selling some left over A2 in 1/8" by 1+" so I told him to get me several pcs for my next try-- problem is I'm up on oil treatment for the 01 but realize A2 needs professional treatment. Please recommend a co or two that caters to the hobbiest, also about what price is right for the treatment of blades ?
many thanks for any help----- I just want to make small hunting type knifes.

Yeah, TKS is a convenient source for small quanities and they do a lot of HT'ing for makers. I believe they are very reasonably in cost. BY ALL MEANS HAVE THEM INCLUDE THE DEEP CRYO option within your blade treatment. I have only heat treated one or two A2 blades and can not remember now the benefit or not from the cryo of them but I highly recommend you insist upon that option and ask to be sure that it is the liquid nitrogen (deep cryo) - not just dry ice. You must have them do it there as part of the treatment. Be sure to ask that they snap temper your blade and then cryo before double tempering. They probably do but I have never dealt with them as a HT'ing source. They may not snap temper before cryo; I don't know.
