Does anyone know how they came up with the heat treatment used on the 52100 ? Did they collaborate with anyone for this particular process? I don't remember Busse using this steel, I could be wrong. I know custom makers using 52100 with forging methods claim to squeeze every ounce of performance out of their blades. I can't imagine it getting any better then the steel that swamp rat uses. I have other blades in 52100 an my rat out performs ALL of my customs. (sharper and less likely to take a perm deformation to the edge). So I guess I want to know how this Heat treat came about.

Eric?

Swamp Rat developed the heat treat we use on our own. We did not collaborate with any other makers to establish our proprietary heat treat.

The heat treat is one of those things that is sometimes overlooked in this day of "high tech" steels. We think it is one of the most crucial parts in developing a high performance knife, we have been extremely impressed with our steel, our heat treatment and the performance we are able to achieve through these.

I agree, It's got to be one of the best knife steels I've used. Thanks for the info. Gotta love that swamp.

That's why I love these S-R knives. Heat treating is the key ingredient that rarely gets talked about. It makes all the difference.
That's why Im lookin' forward to an awesome cuttin' D-2 Bog Dog. Someday...
