Howdy Folks
Just hoping everyone takes extra care during this heat wave
we are experiencing here in the midwest.
I know other parts of the country have been having their share as well.
Drink water
check on your neighbors.

I will pass this along...

$182.00 dollar tip of the day
Go outside to your air conditioner condenser
and take a garden hose and blast the sides of it really really good.
Watch all the black mud/pollen/tree seed pods wash out.
then go in and see how much cooler the air is coming outta your vents.
AC will cycle less frequently as well.

Ive been doing construction for 20 years and never learned that!
My ac was running almost non-stop in this heat wave,
called a local company and after some chat,he hosed me good. ;)
Well,I mean he hosed the compressor good.
A/C is running great now.
He also told me not to use those "good" ac filters,
the 10-15 dollar ones... (restrict too much air flow)
Just use the 1 dollar blue cheapo's
and change them every month.
(if you have pets, spraying it with pam will make the hair stick to it)

Just passing along the info

I was talking about a central air system.
If your going to wash out a window unit air conditioner,
I would just kind of watch so your not blasting water
somehow into your house.
I think washing the condenser coil on a window unit
would work great as well.
If you think about it,air gets sucked in the back,
through those aluminum fins.If they get clogged up,dirty etc,
it wont work nearly as well....

Good tips here. Most split unit A/Cs are not designed to run efficiently in the mid 90 degree temp range. They are especially inefficient in 100 degree weather. The higher MERV filters will restrict air flow, they are designed to filter the suspended particulates to very small microns. So you have to sacrifice filtration with airflow with the cheaper filters. What do you prefer, more filtration or higher air flow?

Good advice on the outside condenser coil's however, check the inside evaporator coil's also to see if they need to be cleaned. If they are stopped up, this will greatly diminish the cooling capacity and cause the A coil to freeze up.
A/C window unit's need to be cleaned atleast once a year if they are used alot. When purchasing A/C window unit's, get the ones with the slide out chasis as the one piece unit's are much harder to clean and must be disassembled. Most of the smaller unit's are one piece and while they are advertised as high effeciency, it comes at a price as they run the condenser line through a water bath which in theory sounds good. The problem is mosquitoes love pool's of water, not to mention dirt which also get's in the pool of water. This creates a sludge pool and thousands of mosquitoes can easily clog up the condenser coil's. I have combated this with adding screens around the outside of the unit to keep the mosquitoes and dirt out.

Going to be hot as _____ fill in the blank - in Raleigh. 100+ over the next 4 or 5 days.
