Heating Things Up With My 18" AK

Today I helped my mom and brother burn a pile of dead branches (mostly off a Mulberry tree thanks to my GRS  ). We were breaking up twigs to get the fire going when my mom suggested I get a few of khukuris to speed up the process. I went into the house and emerged with my 18" AK and 16.5" WWII. I gave mom the WWII and started chopping up the branches with my AK. We fed the fire a steady, increasing supply of fuel until it became a large blaze. I don't know how well my mom did with the WWII since I was so busy chopping and rushing wood to the fire.

My AK came through for me while only getting a scratch on the blade near the tip (many of my chopping blows and ended with the AK's blade into the ground).

About a month ago I filed the edge on the handle ring so that it wouldn't dig in my hand. I had thought that it was still a bit too sharp for comfort, but the AK was very comfortable to chop with barehanded. Not even a blister. ;)

I would be really interested in finding out how she liked it. My mom doesn't really understand my thing for Khuks so I think I'll just have to let her borrow one and see for her self. :)

I did the same thing to my 18"AK. This is the one that Terry Sisco made a great sheath for. I think it really improved the comfort of the handle, and reduced the blister factor:)
