Heavily marked Tomahawk. Any ideas?

Hi Folks,

I picked this up in Connecticut this morning. Correct me if I'm wrong in calling it a Tomahawk but it seems to resemble many "tomahawks" I'm seeing online. It's heavily marked but a cursory search didn't provide me with any definitive answers as to who made it. I know that might not be possible to figure out. From my untrained eye, the haft appears to be original or at least very old. If anyone could enlighten me I'd much appreciate it!

It's an axe from Europe somewhere not a tomahawk, but that's about all I can tell you.
I'm sure someone can tell you more.

What about it tells you it's European? Also, the mark closest to the haft appears to be a T on top of an M in case it doesn't translate in photos. Thanks.

The pattern is similar to others from Germany and thereabouts. Haven't seen any markings exactly like that, but my guess would be East Germany or Eastern Europe (incl. Russia).

A number of axes of this style known to be from european countries such as Germany have been posted here before.

Some European patterns here:

Yep,the guys are correct,it's a product of GDR,or a place a bit further east,whoever used Latin script.(here's a quick search results for "GDR axes"...https://www.google.com/search?q=GDR...ydjcAhWPHzQIHZNxDL8Q_AUICygC&biw=1366&bih=653

That T/M in a triangle is a typical shape for a mark of the soviet-era factory,(M doubtless stands for "mechanical"),and if you did a (long and boring) search you may find out which exact filthy soviet plant it was...
(...and the reason why this shape puts you in mind of a "tomahawk" is because those came from similar places, just a tad earlier...).

Jake pogg, I enjoy your comments about Soviet era tools.
Every time I think, “The Axes of Mordor”, and for some reason I hear hardcore distorted guitar-heavy metal music.

Tawdally,Agent_H:)...(tho' maybe more on the grunge/punk side of spectrum).

Particularly rich are ones marked ИTK(-plus a number).
(Psst,Kevin-them's the Super-Secret Special Forces ones!:)

Well, actually, those are made in a Correctional Labor Colony, and are arguably the most Mordorous of all.
My good friend Alexey sent me photos of a forge in one of those...wonder if i still have them...It's some lovely work-space,i tell ya...(he had made enough money there though for a stolen I-phone And a bribe for the guards to let him use it to send pictures...).
