This thread Is going to be dedicated to a zt 0801 that is in the midst of a transformation. I loved the size and ergos of the handle of the 0801 but the blade shape has never done much for me. I have had chances to own real rexford singularities in the past but passed because 1. I didnt like the blade shape and figured I wouldnt wantot carry it because of it and 2. I couldnt bring myself to take a knife like that to the grinder. With the 0801 I felt I had a little more grounds for creative expression. This is what I came up with. I ended up adding a sharpening choil and rear choil which oddly enough is actually very functional. Its a good place for you thumb when choking up and it really helps facilitate closing the knife one handed.
The outline of the blade was shaped by me but lacking the proper tools and patience my interests shifted as they often do so in the interest of having the best possible job done on the blade I sent it to Reese Weiland for a regrind and hand satin finish. I originally wanted more sweeping grind lines but this is what he could do with the wheels he had on hand. Optimally I would have liked someone with a 2" wheel to do ultra deep hollow grinds so that the swedge and main grind would meet together. Still I love what he did with it and I think it looks really nice. The next phase is to spice up the handles. I have not decided whether I am going to retain most of the look of the zt handle or if I will be sculpting all signs of being a factory knife out of the design. Either way I just wanted to share the blade so far and Reese's awesome work. Stay tuned for the future mods on this knife.
