Heavy axe haft question.

I got a 6 lb DB Falls City axe. It seems to be pre-TT. Loews axe handles say 3-5 lbs. Does any one have recommendations for a source for heavy DB axe handles?

This thing is a beast. I went out and showed it to a log and 75% of the limbs fell off without any work at all. I can't wait to get it hung. Two of my smaller trees fell over on their own too. I'm thinking 36" octagonal. Loews handles are pretty light especially if you remove enough wood for an octagonal.

The eye is 3" x 0.75".

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Couldn't you reshape a pickaxe handle if necessary? Just one idea if you're having a hard time finding a DB handle with a large enough eye.

I can try to take it to Loews and see what they have. They seem to have the best selection in our area. I really like to hand select my hafts, but this is a tough one. I'll see if the have any pick axe handles.

Thanks for the advice.

Tennessee Hickory Products. The very best hickory available, IMO. They come way too fat but with some work they can be excellent - as close to perfect as can be had these days.

Here's one I octagoned for a 4 lb. falling axe.

There web sight refers you to another dealer if just a few handles are needed. Whats the deal?

They don't retail. Hickory Handle Store has been their ebay outlet for several years. I didn't realize they had a website set up. Good to see.
