Can I use a heavy bathroom sink as a forge ? its got a pretty good sized drain on it . 1 and 1/4 inches . Could I line it with dirty clay .

The simple answer is yes.Almost anything that will hold the coals can work. The shape of a sink may not be ideal, but isn't terrible, either. The drain hole is a bit small, but you can modify almost anything with enough ingenuity. That said,A truck tire rim makes an excellent forge, you can get one for free. The plans are everywhere )do a search) for "truck rim forge".

I asked a truck driver I know to look out for a brake drum and of course he just recycled two . I have another buddy who is a mechanic and he,ll scare me up one sometime . Someone just tossed this sink and i figured I could get started with that and switch aeration equipment over when I get the drum .

your biggest problem will be the enamel. it will be popping off at these temps, think little sharp bits of hot glass flying around.

My first forge was a kitchen sink lined with clay dug out of the back yard mixed with wood ash,she lasted for a few years untill I got a better forge and disposed of her,she was still working fine by the way.

Just make a trip down to the local scrap metal yard or car junk yard, rims are plentiful. You could also pick one up at a tire store,15-16 inch wheel will work till you get something better, once you get the first forge built you will know better what you like in a forge and what will work better for you.oce the clay is cured you could use a wooden box for the forge body, that is if you have thick enough clay.

Just use your imagination, and have some fine,
Bruce
