Oh man . . .

Too broad man. Need more details. Price range? Intended use? Laws where you live? Etc. Etc. Etc. There are thousands of threads on this subject. Do a search. Narrow it down and get back to us.

I think the Cold Steel Recon 1 series offer a lot of knife with a super strong lock for not a lot of $$. I carry mine quite a bit in rotation with my ZT651. For higher end, ZT 200/300/550/650. Benchmade Adamas in D2 is a beast. Emersons (love/hate thing). Spyderco has come out with some more heavy duty knives recently, but the Gayle Bradley is a classy yet uber tough knife too.

I agree with everything that Hawk says, but being an Emerson affectionado, I do highly recommend an Emerson. That said, the Cold Steel Recon 1 is one of the toughest knives I have ever seen. I find myself using my Recon 1 for duty that I simply won't use another knife for. Just yesterday, I had occasion to cut some polypropylene lattice. Those of you who are familiar with polypropylene will know how difficult a material it is to cut. I used my Recon 1 to push-cut the PP and it went through it like a champ. The edge didn't roll as I expected and the Teflon coating on the knife allowed it to avoid binding. Whatever CS do to their AUS-8 really works and their Tri-Ad lock is utterly dependable.

Heavy Duty starts with the lock. I would recommend checking out Cold Steel's Triad Lock offerings, such as the Recon 1 line. Hogue Knives use a very sturdy button lock. Spyderco knives using Compression and Ball Bearing Locks are very heavy duty, and Benchmades with the axis lock are very strong, as well. The BM Adamas, particularly, is quite stout. Look into some of those models.

Hope that helps.

benchmade 275 adamas like mentioned above zt 030x and hest 2.0 are all very stout hard use knives that will take a hell of a beating

Spyderco TUFF. made of CPM 3v bladesteel which is one of the very toughest blades out there.

Does it? Seems like there are vastly more reports of broken blades (tips in particular) than broken locks.

Check out Kershaw ZT 0550.....heavy duty.no need to sorry bout broken blades or locks......full tilt bad ass.

That's a fair rebuttal. A stout tip and blade profile is important, as well. Perhaps just as important.

In that range I vote Satu - beastly and surprisingly easy to carry given the size.

If you haven't already done it, like BenchmadeBoy said, find out what knives are legal for you to carry in your state/county/city (that is, if you care about obeying the law, and I would definitely advise it as some "weapons" laws come with severe penalties, even if you're not carrying the knife as a weapon). The recommendation of a particular knife won't do you any good if you are legally forbidden from carrying it.

Saying where you live and where you intend to carry the knife might help as others here might know your local laws. Of course, if you already know all your local knife laws then this is irrelevant.

for heavy duty, go with recon 1, it is built like a tank and tri-ad lock is that strong, it takes over 200 lb just to dislodge the lock while it's locked
