I am looking for a heavy duty hard use knife. Fixed blade. I want it to have at least a 5" blade.
I am aiming at the BK2, RD6, RAT5, Buck Punk, and RATMANDU (if I can find one cheap enough). Any others I should consider? I'd like to keep the price around $100 unless I buy the Swamp Rat. I am kind of looking at the big meaty 1/4" type, but that's not a deal breaker. School me. :D

FWIW- the RAT 3 has been one of my favorites- I want a longer blade/bigger knife for heavy camp use.

I don't think you will get much quality for $100 bucks. Even the ESEE knives that size are a good bit more in price.

Tim Olt made this one for me. .28 thick, A2 steel, 10 inch blade. It's heavy duty, indeed. ;)

I thought about going custom as well. I would be proud to have a knife like that!

I understand the price is on the low end, but it will be a beater- and if it gets lost I will buy another without loosing my @ss!!

I'd say start here, in the 'for sale' area, and look for a bargain. You can often pick up a screaming deal on a used blade.

Have you looked at any of the Himalayan Imports? They have their "villager" line that are around 15 inches OAL and with shipping are under $70.

Ontario RD series in 5160 meets your criteria

I would say the Ontario Ranger series in 5160 or look up Don Shipley on the net. He has some stuff else where also. I've one of his dropped hunters and it seems like it would withstand a nuclear blast it is that robust but a nice thin edge and flat or hollow ground depending on your taste. What you'll get is an adjustable kydex sheath with belt loop carrier and how it is attached to the sheath is how you adjust tension. With the screw tension on the loop. Trust me on this one his knives are a huge bang for the buck. Like 85 bucks for the drop point and the one like I have with the drop point and handle is 5 bucks more. keepem sharp

It's NOT mine and I have NO connection to it , but there's a Ratmandu for sale right now on the exchange at a GOOD price . Other that that , the Rat 5 , BK 2 or a TAK 1 are all in your price range .

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS ! :emot-yarr:

ESEE-6.

It would take anything you throw at it, and comes with a no-questions-asked lifetime warranty. You should be able to find a new one around $120 shipped. It's worth spending an extra $20 on.

I did some searching and decided to give this one a try.........
