Heavy duty rain chaps

Wearing a poncho, you'll notice that quite a lot of water is shed on your legs.
It's not a problem for light rain, but for heavy rain or long rain episodes it is quite annoying.

Recently I've been using Fjallraven rain chaps. Those are very nice and did work well (being breathable and all).
The only problem I have with them is (being very light) they aren't very strong (they probably can endure more than what they look like but I didn't felt like testing). Not a big problems in plains but could be a problem in the forest.

I was looking for something a bit more heavy duty useable for hikes in more difficult terrain (more difficult hikes than extensive field work).
Breathable or well ventilated prefered.
Not too heavy and/or bulky.

Any ideas?

Have you checked Filson? I do not remember if the make chaps but they do offer a variety of heavy duty waterproof pants.

Apparently they have some "Tin Cloth" waterproof chaps.
Sound a bit a heavy, and I'd probably prefer cheaper, maintenance free, synthetic material for that kind of application.

I carry a pair of Frogg Toggs rain pants in my pack. They roll up into a tight ball, take up very little space. They are just what I need when it rains heavily.

Actually I already have a thin pair that I'm fairly happy with. They are fine for occasional use but I'm looking for something more heavy duty, like walking in brushes.
I have some german surplus goretex pants that seem quite durable but they are a bit heavy. Cutting the legs off could be an idea but I'm not really tooled up for that.
The wiggys look interesting but they seam quite light too.
