Heavy duty slip joint

I was wondering who makes a heavy duty slip joint knife. I know that some people are going to say just get a lock blade. But im looking at who make just a serious, no frills, heavy built, single or double blade knife.

What Im looking at May not exist or be practical. But I'd like one with a thick but sharp blade, descent steel (nothing special), that when you pull open it has a satisfying snap. And maybe a loop on one end for a lanyard. Maybe with a price that wouldn't break the bank either. Lol.

Is there such a beast or is this just a country boys dream? Lol.

What price would be a bank breaker for you? And are you looking for a modern styled knife or traditional?

Queen Mountain Man.

Comes as both a lockback or a slipjoint.

Might not be as "heavy duty" as you want, but it's getting there.

Douk-douk.

Check out Great Eastern Cutlery. They make #23, #72 #73 and #74 any of those should foot the bill. Very well made slipjoints.

traditional, and i tend to get knives for more go than show. so over 60 or 70 bucks and it really hearts if i scratch or break it. lol.

Douk-Douk, Case Sodbuster or Moose (CV), Aitor Castor (the tip's a bit thin), Great Eastern #73 or #23, Victorinox Farmer (or any large alox SAK). Out of these, Sodbusters, Douk-Douks and the Castores are going to be the best bang for your buck. The SAK has some cool extra tools without being too thick. Great Eastern's #73 is definitely my favourite, tough, strong springs, very comfortable to use and the 1095 blades take a wicked edge.

Here's a picture. The Douk-Douk is the newest, so it's still getting its patina (I like it to develop naturally). The GEC is the one I've used the most.

The Bull Nose from Great Eastern Cutlery in 01 steel is a great Solid knife. Several covers to choose from as well.

Here's my Canvas Micarta

I also have one in Orange covers but I like the Micarta a little better grip wise.

Archminer- Check out AG Russell. They make some VERY heavy duty slipjoints. Thick blades, thick back springs obv, solid craftsmanship, great snap, and great fit n finish. They are also not expensive at all. around 50 bucks last time I looked and they are SOLID

Not my pic, just googled- but check out the those back springs. Good luck in your search -Casey

Funny. That's my picture and my backyard.

None of those three pictured is a slipjoint. They are all lockbacks.

But your advice is right. Have a look at AG Russell his Sowbelly, Rancher , Cowboy and 2011 Texas ranger slipjoints

All big and beautiful and most of all very solid. I'll see if i can find some pictures later.

You might want to take a look at the Case Backpocket knife.
It's a Tony Bose design, nice size but slim and it's available in a few different handle variations.

Not sure how big you want it, but a Case hunter is pretty tough.

Ok, time to get some pics out:

First of all, here is the Russell Sowbelly double blade slipjoint:

With a Wharncliffe blade:

And a clippoint:

As you can see it's quite a beast. It's also available in single blade variant with either type of blade. With handle scales of Cocobolo, Brown Rucarta (pretty identical to Micarta) or yellow Delrin.

Then there's the Curved Regular Jack. Available in Either zulu spearpoint or Wharncliffe with either plain white or jigged amber bone scales.
I owned this one for a while.

As you can see, it's quite a solid (thick) knife.

But quite a bit smaller than the sowbelly with it's 3" blade

Then there's the Texas Ranger 2011. This video is from the Russell store. I own this one. It's an awesome knife. There are still some of these available. (Wasn't their most populair Texas Ranger model ever)

A quick pic of the one I have (middle one)

And last but not least there's the Cowboy and Rancher slipjoints.
The cowboy is the larger one and the rancher a little smaller. These are probably the best deal pricewise since they can be had for under $50 in Black Rucarta, Rosewood, Red Rucarta, yellow Delrin.
Here's mine it's one of the Cowboy knives.

Case makes good knives, so does Queen and GEC. But if it's heavy duty + slipjoint that you want I don't think you'll find any real alternative to A.G. Russell.

PS, all of these can be had for under $100 in any version, even the Cocobolo version of the Sowbelly So like you said they won't break the bank.

Not sure exactly how tough it is and it's not a traditional, but it's in your price range. Spyderco pingo is a great slip joint with N690Co steel.
