"Heavy duty" SOG Multitools?

Is the SOG ParaTool considered one of their heavier duty tools?

If not, what would the durability under hard/emergency use be for the ParaTool & PowerLock (considering the SwitchPlier, which I find to be an excellent design, to be medium duty)?

I have not used (only handled;)) the Paratool, but have both the Switchpliers and Powerlock.

My opinion is that the Powerlock is heavier duty than either. The switchpliers are  cool, and the paratool is incredibly "compact", but for heavier work I'd pick a powerlock.

Just my 2 pennies...

Last weekend I was looking at multitools. For sheer solid build you cant beat the Powerlock.

I've had my TiNi Powerlock for about 1.5 years or so, and have used it a fair bit. Apart from stuff it was never designed to do  ...(plug your ears Ron)... it has been great. I gave away my Leatherman, and my Gerber - this one is all I need! OK, OK, there's 2 there...

The SOG "strength progression" IMHO is: Switchpliers,Paratool, Powerpliers, Powerlock :D

In your list, does "strength" determine "crush power"? I can see in my SwitchPlier where there is a limit that can be applied to the handles, before some flexing occurs, but in terms of jaw strength, they seem pretty sturdy.

I am looking at the SwitchPlier in terms of a quick to deploy tool for LEO/EDC "emergency" stuff, but not necessarily for daily heavy tasks. The jaws are of course speedy, but I find that I can get to the blades quick too, perhaps quicker than a PowerLock - just lift the handle, and rotate the blade.

Mksql,
I was answering the question of "heavy duty" progression, however unclearly:confused: ...
The Powerlock is the "heaviest duty", especially with its compound leverage. It is (IMHO) the heaviest built, and will take the most abuse (I know mine has).

For quick "deployment" the switchplier is ideal, I guess I misunderstood your question:o

While I can get to the Powerlock blades with relative ease, it isn't as quick as the Switchpliers. Of course you KNOW I'm sitting here playing with both tools now...

Leave that alone... - too easy!!!:D

You answered my questions just fine - I sort of switched directions in mid thread.

Thanks!

Having been in the military for the past 18 years, I have had as a constant companion, several of the multi-tools. The first was a Leatherman and from then progressed to several others. For my use and abuse, the Powerlock can't be beat. I've managed to break most of the others in one way or another.

Plus, SOG was extremely helpful when I had a problem with the wire cutter not performing up to what I needed. Back and forth a couple of times and they got it fixed for me at no charge to me except for my cost to ship it to them. I am very pleased with their customer service.
