Heavy Duty vs. Active Duty?

I need some information/advice from some of you long-in-the-tusk Hogs, please.

I have an OD/Green Linen Duty from years back that seems to measure .20 or so - it's a cheap set of calipers - with the Busse logo, not a milganzaa AD, whatzit?

What other ways can you tell an Active Duty from a Heavy Duty? Colors? Grind? Size of talon hole? I'd appreciate any answers and/or pictures any of you would like to share.

Thanks!

I have had both a Tan/Tan and a Blk Crinkle/Blk Micarta HD. The AD-HD talon holes do have a smaller OD and as for what that is I'd have to dig it out and check. The blade thickness I have seen is .209-.209 respectfully.

A green HD was my first Busse :D:thumbup:
From what I remember Heavy Duties were offered in only three color combos: black with black canvas, tan with tan canvas and green with black canvas. They were thicker than standard ADs - probably 0.20" thick, but I could be mistaken.
I don't remember a HD with green linen handles.

If it looks like this one in the pic with the Muddy Milganzaaa Mr. and some Skunk junk...

...Then it's a Leprechaun AD from the Store, OD with GL...offered back in late 2007- early 2008, IIRC. It's thickness was listed as being .190", but .200" would still be in the ballpark on these. :)

The third knife from the right is a Heavy Duty. You can see that it has smaller talon/pommel holes than the MAD to its left and CG AD to its right. It also has a shorter sabre grind than the MAD. It was a black/black but has been stripped.

I believe Jaxx is correct, along with the others, which shouldnt surprise anyone:D

If its green/green linen then its the Leprechaun:thumbup:

Sounds right. I had a Leprechaun that was 0.203" and still have one that's 0.196". That's close enough.

Thanks to everyone for all the helpful information and great pictures - the kind generosity of you Hogs with your time and advice is one of the many reasons I love this forum!
Best Wishes,

Bill,

The top two knives in this pic are Heavy Dutys (one black and one stripped) and the bottom knife is an Active Duty (also stripped). With these shots you can easily see the difference in the height of the sabre grind with the HD's having a higher sabre grind than the AD's, as was previously stated by Soulrack223.

Yes, I just resurrected this thread. I'm going to follow up shortly with pics. This whole active versus heavy duty is confusing as heck! Or is it s milganzaa duty? Pics to follow

Talon Hole size should be different. Please get good clear pix with the Duty in good light. :)

Edit: LOL, reread last post, had to edit plurals down to singular.
