Heavy Heart vs. FSH

Does anyone have both that can post some pictures of both side by side at various angles for comparison?

The specs for the Heavy Heart are 8" blade, 14" oal, .270" thick.

What are the specs for the FSH?

Will the Heavy Heart ever be made in Satin?

I think the FSH is dimensionally the same as the HH except that is is .250 stock. instead of .270. If I compare them, there is little difference. In fact the Black HH looks narrower than my Tan FSH but that is an illusion of sorts. Black seems to make things look a bit smaller sometimes. Oddly enough they weigh exactly the same. The bigger difference is the FSH and HH compared to the HOFSH. The HOFSH is 5/16ths. Much heavier.

How does the FSH and HH weigh exactly the same if the have the same dimensions, but the HH is .02 inches thicker?

Plus, one thing I noticed is that the grind line on the HH doesn't go all the way to the top of the knife. Whereas the FSH appears to.

So, shouldn't there be more steel on the HH (???????) = more weight?

.

My standard .250 FHS has magnum handles and the HH has Standard handles. I don't know what the weight difference is but that may account for it.

I've noticed in several of my Battle Mistress' that even though they have the same handles, the weights vary quite a bit. Maybe this is because they are made of diferrent batches of stock or hand shaped and ground so different amounts of metal has been removed. If you mic them, they also vary in width by a few thousandths. Blade height and length also may vary fractionally.

So, in some way, each one is a custom grind with it's own characteristics.

The weight difference between regular FSH and HH is about an ounce. If you handled both, you wouldn't even tell which one is heavier.

The grind line doesn't go all the way on regular FSH either (you probably haven't noticed, take a closer look)

HH does have more INFI but that amount is very small.

According to Skunk, the HH is really .275" thick... ;)

That guy is a menace, he keeps all the fatty Heavy Hearts and sends us anorexic ones ;)

Would have loved to get my HH in satin finish but looks like the only option is to bead blast it. Why Jerry can't do this at the factory I can't understand. Surely many of us would be willing to pay extra for the service. :)

My FSH(1/4)/Mag looks like a full convex to me... best I can tell. I love it!

Here she is, dirty, and after her bath.

I believe that since this was a special run every effort was made to keep the cost down and delivery as fast as possible due to not needing a great deal of extra finishing. Coated blades allow for this. Of course Skunk might have just thought that black blades were cool and so......:D

I didn't know the FSH was convex (????).

I thought it was a flat grind.

Is the HH Convex????

I LOVE CONVEX !!!!!!!!!!!! :D

It looks convex to me, however slight. There is a multi-angle grind, with a convex feel, either because of the grind, the coating, or my well-wishes :D

Here is a view from the dirty edge...

here's the scoop and maybe jerry or garth will chime in and give us some more insight.

when a satin or double cut finish is applied busse must start with a infi bar the thickness of a cbl can.

the reason is that infi has roll marks and dimples in it. it has to be surface ground to make both sides shiny. then it is polished or double cut.

so if they have to take .010 off each side to make it shiny, and they want to end up at say .250 then they have to start with .270 or so.

obviously the cost goes up in labor and that's not so good for a dealio of the day.

sooooo, in order to make it super attractive and a great deal for us, jerry used the infi bars as is and left them at .270 and gave them a super tough coating.

also the run was squeezed in during a couple of military runs and wasn't really scheduled. (i send mucho booze and candy for bribes, the feds only send cash)

remember if you want your busse to be like a burgerking sandwich then your need to buy it from busse while the custom orders are being taken.

if you miss that run because your wife has maxed your card or you were in a comatose state of drunkenness, paying taxes or whatever...

then never fear, you can get your fix at the busse company store.

PLUS some special runs that i can talk jerry into while he's drunk

i hope this makes sense as i didn't intend it not to do so yet

Skunk, keep thinking of us.

We all need INFI.

The HH is a good dose.
