Heber & 25 inch AK in action

Looka' dat blade sink into that piece of wood (after it split the piece on top). :D

It looks like a scary piece of equipment.

Does that handle have enough room for two hands?

After taking a swing I noticed that my AK was stuck in the chopping block so I went to remove it and found that an 8th of the log was stuck to the tip.:D If you look closely at the chopping block, you can see two long splits.

Well, the handle is almost big enough for my two hands. My left hand is right up against the butt cap and my right hand has to hold part of the bolster. There is very little shock if I hold the handle properly.

I split enough wood for three days and wasn't tired at all. If it hand't been getting dark and cold really fast, I would have kept chopping till I ran out of wood or got tired. Once you get used to it, the 25" AK doesn't feel that heavy. I'm used to swinging an 8 pound maul for an hour at a time. This was easy compaired to that. When I use the maul, I normally wear gloves so I don't get blisters and to help absorb shock. Godzilla was a lot different. I had no problems with blisters. Durba sure knows how to make a good handle. Just wish it was longer.

This summer I will be doing a lot of camping and will make sure to bring along my new AK. I just need to find a way to strap it to my back so I can carry him. This is one BIG Knife.

I'm not sure if I was dreaming or what yesterday evening, but it sure looked like some of those logs would split in two on there own accord when they saw the AK bearing down on them. This thing is a lot of fun to use. I think I'll need more wood to split before the week is out.:D

Wildmanh,

As as you let the blade drop to whatever you are chopping try to push with your forward hand while pulling with your rear hand. (Is this making sense  )

That is what I do with my GRS when I find stuff that needs to be...uhh...destroyed ;). I find that I accurately strike with greater speed in this fashion while maintaining greater endurance.

(25 freaken inches...And I thought my GRS was heavy.:o )

Such a big knife for such a small log (just kidding). I split with two hands as well but chop with one hand.

Almost did a couple of times. That AK sure can cut through wood fast.:D I ran out of logs to split but when I find more, they won't be safe:D hehe hehe hehe!

Nice reviwew (& nice khuk!). You don't mind a link to it on the 'Some of our khukuris' page on the HI site, do you? Also, I was thinking of putting a link to your galley on the page - you've a nice assortment and some good quality photos of HI knives.
