I was wondering if anyone who has used the Hedgehog Leatherworks sheath for the BK2 could share their thoughts, impressions, and opinions about it. I'm helping a friend who wants one weigh the pros and cons of putting down $190 on it. Also, if anyone knows of any good custom BK2 sheaths that are less expensive than this one, that would also be much appreciated.

Here is some information about the sheath from Hedgehog Leatherworks site (http://www.hedgehogleatherworks.com/Sheath-for-the-Becker-BK-2-Knife-p/h-av.htm):
-25 year warranty
-Handmade from scratch
-Rugged Surface Finish (read more below)
-Rapid Release Strap (United States Patent #7587827)
-Molded to fit the BK-2 knife perfectly
-Double stitched
-Reinforced stress points
-Water repellant finish
-MOLLE compatible
-Attaches horizontally across the lower back
-Snap-off belt loops
-Advanced version of sheath includes a pocket and fire starter with a striker

And pictures from the site:

Thank you for your time and your help :)

My friend, if you and your friend can not find At least $190 worth of value in the sheath you pictured, then I doubt you will be pleased with anything. If price is your main criteria, then I suggest you buy some leather, and tools and spend the time to get proficient at leather craft and make your own........no wait! That would cost you a hell of a lot more than $190 for questionable results.

I'm sure you get my point. $190 for the pictured sheath is VERY reasonable. It should be more like $250 to $300 with all those add ons. If you do a feature by feature equal comparison with other sheaths I think you will agree.

Those sheaths are well made from that company Scotch. I agree with sheathmaker's point that it is decently priced for $190. With a 25 yr warranty, you'll have plenty of time to run it through its paces.
If you ask on the Becker or Kabar forum thread, I bet they could give you more insight. I've seen a few Beckerheads with those same sheaths.

I'll tread off the track and say we should always support those that support the community here. :)

Course, I am a little biased toward our contributing craftsmen like Paul. :D

We do have a few craftsmen that specialize in just that style of sheath, I hope they chime in here. Skyler? You out there?

I offer quite a few BK2 sheaths...

Wow scotch. I think you just found a better alternative. :)

Those are beautiful sheaths Goose. That retention system you have looks awesome. I only hope to make sheaths that clean.

Outstanding Goose! :D I am glad you chimed in here!

Always good to hear from a BF contributor. :) Always.

The retention system you developed is very unique in a world where anything different is a rare thing.

Those are some nice leather sheaths. But that retention strap on the Hedgehog has me puzzled. I was wondering why it was patented because it looks simply like the strap is secured with the stud, like so many bowies you see. But the patent says it's an automatic release system. I guess there some way it releases when the knife is being pulled. Would love to see one in person one of these days!

No problem, and thanks! :)

Hedgehogs retention strap has a piece of shock cord built into it. When the strap is fastened, the shock cord is tensioned. When the strap is unfastened by the user, the shock cord retracts, and pulls the retention strap out of the way, thus eliminating the chance of cutting the strap with the knifes edge. Its a brilliant system, I can certainly see why he patented it.

A bazillion options when it comes to BK-2 sheaths. We license the Rapid Release system from Paul at Hedgehog and utilize it on most of ours.

Like those sheaths sky storm. Geez I need to jump on the band wagon and buy a Becker. So many options out there for them.
