Picked up a FG Bodega and the heel of the blade appears not to be sharpened. Is this normal?

I am not sure what you would consider "normal" but any part of the blade that is an edge used for cutting should be sharp.

(I am confident that you're not talking about the sharpening choil)

That leaves you with 2 options:

Sharpen it yourself (My Pick, and you're gonna have to sharpen it eventually anyway)
Send it back and have it sharpened by the maker.

This is "normal" for Bodegas(it was this way on every Bodega I have ever seen) and probably for any Todd Begg knives. They are this way because he is not capable of executing grind properly. Dont bother sending it tomaker they will just tell you its part of design and if they sharpened it all the way(which they cant because poorly executed grind) it would be safety hazard O_o

It's a "saftey feature" lol.

15:30 mark, he addresses the issue.

Why do people buy knives that are so poorly ground? No offense meant, you probably bought it sight unseen. I have only one knife ground like that, but it cost $60 and is a true stilletto dagger (fixed blade with 3 ground surfaces) meant for stabbing more than cutting.

Deal breaker for me. Won't even buy the Cold Steel models like that let alone a much more expensive knife.

Freaked me out a little bit too when I got my first FG. I've sharpened a few for some friends and they all Did NOT have the heel sharpened.

I gotta be honest, it doesn't bother me on less expensive knives (my PM2 had the same issue), but I would be profoundly unhappy if I shelled out that kind of cash and ended up with an issue like that.

I don't think that is good at any price.

I remember seeing that on a fixed blade camp knife I saw on ebay. The same thing but about 2 inches long, lol.
