I was thinking of this today and I was wondering. does a persons height and weight have anything to do with the size of the knife they carry? i know a couple of knife nuts that are shorter guys that prefer to carry larger knives

alright so I'll go first
I'm 6'3" and 170 pounds and the largest blade I carry normally is a little under three inches. I do prefer knives with smaller blades as long as they have a good grip.

I would think hand size plays more of a role than height and weight...unless the guy in question is just compensating.....I look more for a GOOD blade with a handle which fits comfortably in my hand...I have, and carry, a variety of knives with a variety of blade lengths. For the record, I AM short @ 5'6" and weigh a pretty damned solid 200lbs.

thats basically what I'm asking.

I guess it might depend on how you are carrying it, too. A larger person will have an easier time concealing a larger blade. I think hand size and the comfort of the knife in hand is the main thing though.

The main reason I'm asking is because one of my brothers is a huge guy but the largest knife he carries is an endura but a family friend doesnt carry anything smaller than a military

I'm pretty short (about 5'.6") but fairly well built. I usually carry a folder thats about 4" and a small fixed blade at
about 2-3" when in the city. If I'm out in the hills or at least out of town that fixed blade goes up to about 5 or 7".

I think physical stats. have little to do with it and it has more to do with intended use and personal likes.

There is a Freudian theory somewhere in here!:eek:;) But for the record, I'm 5'11" and weigh 220. I generally carry a 3.5" to +4.0" bladed folder.

6" 190lbs usually carry something in the 3-4 inch range. Occasionally a bit under 3" if its got at least a 3 finger grip. My Emerson A100 fits me perfect.

Big palms with medium sized fingers.

I bought my 6'5" 350lbs brother in law a case tiny toothpick. Then nearly died laughing when he told me he carries it everyday.

Size has little to do with it, its all about the motion of the ocean ;)

5'11 and 252 pounds, I regularly carry any one of these...

Recon 1 Tanto Serrated
Rajah 1 or 2
SOG Twitch XL Tanto
Rajah 3
AK-47

so nothing means nothing, there is no rhyme or reason, if they feel good, come out quick and I trust them then I carry them.

Yes, though as has been mentioned it's really hand size--which often corresponds to height. Not sure how weight factors in exactly. A secondary influence is hand shape: if you have particularly long, slender fingers a given knife will feel different than if they are short and stubby. I'm very short and had to get rid of my Benchmade 950 Rift because it's just a teensy bit too big and bulky to carry comfortably.
Most people are of average size but those who are particularly large or small are usually going to need something proportional.

im a fairly decent sized guy at 6'2, 220 and i prefer smaller knives. i love the size of my small seb. i prefer knives with 3" blade. i just dont feel a need to carry around big knives.

I am about 5'10" ~145lbs but my hands are kind of big. First priority is that I can get all four fingers on a knife. For a given handle length I prefer a longer blade since my usage is usually cutting food and short blade=juice into the pivot.

My knives are usually between 3 and 4". I like longer blades as long as the handle isnt too long.

I'm 4' 8" and 99 lbs. I carry 2 Cold Steel Large Espada's, one in each pocket and a Busse Gladius strapped to me leg..

Just kidding. 5'11" about 185 lbs. wide palms and medium sized fingers and I'll comfortably carry a Spyderco Leafstorm (really pushing it toward the small end) to a Strider SMF (large but still comfortable in the hands). I think as far as how large a knife one would carry depends on what fits comfortably in one's pocket. For instance, I would assume my 6'8" nephew could more comfortably carry a SMF while I think a Leafstorm would get lost in his pocket lint.

im little italiano 5-2. 180 its the pasta. and beer. i like to use a lot of knives but for e.d.c i usually try to stay 5 inches or smaller. but i do use a 2.5 incher at the market. but for edc i forget i got it some time i switch between all my knives so how do i answer this.

Wuss....if you were a REAL man you'd also carry two Cold Steel Extra Large Voyagers and a Cold Steel Pocket Bushman as a neck knife!
