One of these is coming my way from a friend:

Anyone had good luck with these as a gas forge before?

As far as I know the kegs are made from some variety of stainless steel.

They are aluminum and thus not a good choice. Drink the beer while thinkimg of a more suitable vessel for a forge and then after you sober up return it for the deposit/refund.

Some of the mini kegs are made of steel though, I've got one from a local brewery set aside for a forge project. You can use just about any non-flammable material, its just a matter of convenience, mild steel as mentioned is easy to weld to, which makes life much easier when attaching burners, rest, legs, etc.

I have seen forges made from cartable refractory like the Zowada forge that arguably don't even need a metal skin on the outside. With that said, remember that aluminum melts at 1220F.

Thanks guys! At the very least I can use it as my quench tank since I don't have one of those yet either.
