So.. There is a Police Helicoptor circling overhead, calling out "come out with your hands up" over the loudspeaker.(it's not for me or my terrified wife)... as I am typing and I am sitting in My bedroom with a double-bit axe handle leaning against my wall... Can i legally Klobber the next Man(person) that enters my house with lethal force? I am on edge as is let alone my wife saying every 2 seconds "what was that!!" I live in Glendale AZ and dont want to get sued/imprisoned for maiming/killing the next living creature for walking in my front door/window/backdoor...

PS. the circling has been going on now for about 27 minutes

I would rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6. If a threat enters your home, protect your family.

Yes, by all means, protect your family if said goblin enters where he/she/it ain't welcome. Use a cheap import though. No use having blood corrode a good axe. ;)

This is weird, though; we had the same thing, three blocks away, yesterday at 1:00 am. Car thief hiding in a back yard, and cops/canine unit eventually got him. (1/2 mile away, but I've got my .44 loaded and within easy reach anyway.)

Lol axe HANDLE, kinda like a skinny baseball bat. Just re-handled an old two-bit, and all but the top 3 inches of it was actually still a good-'ol American hickory shillelagh (Irish walking stick) Keep it bedside for those "just in case" moments. Also the Pork-Chopper (Police-Helicopter) went away...so all is ok...I guess

Thanks for the legal advice =)

You live in AZ; castle doctrine applies. You have no duty to retreat. Person breaking & entering your house can be assumed of ill intent. Deadly force may be applied at will. That said, I am not a lawyer.

Always obey the voice on the loudspeaker. They are there to help you and they know what is best for you. Castle Doctrine only applies to some masked intruders, not all.

If the SWAT team comes barging in through the front door, I strongly suggest not charging at them with an axe handle. Just my 2c.

I had this a couple of years ago.

That thing kept circling the house for over ten minutes. Quite terrifying.

I called my mom (who lived on the same street), she said: ' they're not looking for someone, if they did, they'd use a searchlight'.
The moment she said that the helicopter switched on the searchlight. LOL. It was like a movie.

I locket the whole place down. Took a large chefs knife ( I live in the Netherlands, no guns) with me and locked myself and the wife in the bedroom.

Turned out they were looking for burglars.

I've had two similar situations. The first was I walking out of the grocery store and noticed a lot of cops. Not that unusual considering the neighborhood, but most of the time they aren't crouching behind pillars with their service pistols and rifles. That the the fastest I ever loaded my car and got out.

The second involved a circling police helicopter telling everybody to stay inside. Apparently a pair of punks had been causing trouble. I look out the window and there a cop at the intersection with his gun drawn. Closed and locked the doors and windows and hunkered down on the living room floor with a machete and the newspaper to wait it out (The bottom 4 feet of the exterior walls were brick). About 2 minutes later I hear "pop....pop..pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop pop" from the north. 5 minutes after that it came from the west.
