Yankee Tasmania Sport Training Axe, 4#, 32", $94 list

Has any one used one of these? Thinking It would be a good axe for the trail crew.Maybe less work to grind than a Arvika?
And before someone jumps my sh!!!!
I Searched and found no review.

Moose, get your sh!! together, man!!! J/k :D. Maybe you could PM Garry Owen from this thread to see if he went ahead and ordered one:

Looks like Skog from BCUSA ordered a Helko, but I can't tell if he ordered the sport axe or the boy's axe size:

EDIT: it looks like Skog ordered the 3.5 pounder.
Same thing I found. No reveiws, never thought to pm. thanks.

People just seem a little uptight, And me not knowing all the rules,Just trying to get along:)

Might Buy one, grind it, and do a comparison with a ground Arvika.

We'd love to see the results!!!

Those Arvika's take a lot of work to tune?

I don't mean to derail the thread here but...
I've read from several sources that those Arvika's are a real pain in the a$$.
I don't really know though.

Maybe Moose will chime in about them and maybe he's had some first hand experience with them.

Let's not talk about racing axes...it's dangerous for my checking account.

Yes they are a lot of work.(good news is they give you a lot to work with)I just got another one last week , Kind of why I was asking maybe the profile is better on the Helko,

My next winter project is to Grind the Arvika(and Helko if I buy one), And take pictures along the way,so I can teach my crew How.

Just orderd a Diamond sharpener and rare earth magnet cup setup (Thanks AT)to do the final edge work,Better setup than I have been using.
Will use my Makita 1 1/8 Belt Sander,And 4"angle with flap disk to profile.

Got a nice log 28" log to test them on.

We wouldn't mind seeing those pictures, too.

I know this thread is a little cold, but here goes.

Just got mine in the mail today. A file bites on it (in my experience) somewhere between my Council Tool Jersey and an old True Temper, Flint Edge, Kelly Perfect Double Bit I just rehafted for my brother in law. (I would guess somewhere in the low 50s HRA ~ 53, but am far from an expert in metallurgy...)

Out of the box, this axe seems very blunt to me - at least for North American use (maybe the bevel set is for Australian Hardwoods?). The handle alignment is perfect, grain orientation not so much, looks to be about 60 degrees off from parallel to the bit.

There is a lot of lacquer on the head and handle - thats coming off asap. Ill try to post some before and afters once I get around to tuning it.
