I just picked up a hell razor in comp finish. It is the first Busse knife I have bought, I have been a spydie guy up until now. Any ways, this knife is not as sharp as my ZDP blades, It had been used, and I plan on using it as well .With Elk season fast approaching I want to get a fine edge on. What angle is best for a razor finish? What are your recommendation for sharpening this knife? Also it seems this is one of the lest popular knifes that Busse has made? Any thoughts?

Comp finish = convex edge. Get out some sandpaper. Don't ruin such a fine edge. Actually, I'm surprised it isnt' sharper. All my CE's came pretty sharp. Altho I'll find out how my HR-CE is in a day or two.

Congrats on a nice score. First off...the HR is far from being the least popular. It is one of my favorite busse in that size category. I would recommend a strop and sandpaper/compound since it is a Comp HR with a convex edge. Those thinner CF HR edges can get extremely sharp. But then again you are comparing a thicker and much more robust fixed bladed to a skinny folder with good geometry and fine edge.

Congrats! Welcome to BF and to Busse.

I think the HR turned out overall to be one of the more popular models. It has been overshadowed lately by the new-ness of some of the other models coming out, but it's no less of a knife.

I agree with what Ban said about comparing two totally different styles of knives. It's hard to keep them all in perspective sometimes, but most of the Spydies have a somewhat different intended performance expectancy than most Busse knives.

If the HR came to you used, that may explain why it's not as sharp as it could be. Maybe I can tell you in a few days - I just ordered a new HR in the comp finish yesterday!

The HellRazor is one fine knife. One of my favs.

Before I got into Busse's I was also a Spydieguy. Still like them. I had a burgundy Calypso jr. with the ZDP and that one was scary sharp. But on my edgepro I get the same results (if not better) on any Busse I have (even on my HOGFSH's that have a spine over 8mm. The final step on the edgepro is to polish the edge with the polish tapes. When I achieve this mirror finish on the edge I always remove the littlest of (wire)burr with the ultrafine stones on the Sharpmaker with a featherlite touch. INFI can take a very scary sharp edge:thumbup:
