Hello everyone!

I just recieved my Helle Bessegen (blemish) for reduced price 30% price off for this speciment. Now as blem there were 2 slashes in sheath and the finger guard was bit off (wood and metal parts did not quite weren't shape to fit, but its cosmetic thing.

First thing I noticed when I took the Bessegen, was it felt good and was scary sharp!! Except for the part that had hit the packages plastic attachments and rolled up the edge from the base. I really prefer when Helle ships their knives with gift tubes, because then knife is in sheath and this won't happen, unlike regular packages where knife has attached separately into plastic lining.

Balance was nice and sheath was sturdy. Besseggen sits really tightly in there and as that is not enough, you can secure Bessegen with leather loop from exposed rat tail tang. (pictures will be soon). My Helle Symfoni could just dream to be so solidly in its sheath.

The ergonomics must have been best so far I've had in any puukko by this date. I like oval and flat style handles. Birch is warm and slipfree. Triple laminated steel also has beautiful edge line, where layering ends and cutting edge surfaces, though its most visible against light.

With light whittling test this knife with factory edge sinks wood like hot knife in a butter. It has good control for the edge. And Bessegen pushcuts nearly any paper with factory edge already. Once I am done with sharpening and finishing this with 2000 grit sandpaper and stroppings... I have sharpest puukko yet (or my most expensive butter knife :D)

I am impressed. Rat tail tang puukko, with great ergonomics and tight fitting sheath. After resharpening the edge and fixing the seath, this will be my camping knife for while. I really cannot give negative from oddjob finger guard or slashes on sheath as its belmish. There's still few spots where fit & finish hasn't quite been up to Helle's Usually level but this is a great user for those who look slightly more compact, more traditional work knife or camp knife. Or those who like puukko's.

Edit, here are the pictures:

The oddjob finger guard, no sharp edges though.

Bessegen does make quite impressive results. This will be a very good camp knife or woodwork knife. Anything from hair thin splinter's into very thick shards. Its up to user what he wants. Bessegen can do it all.

Very nice indeed

I have my eye on this one

Any pictures of the knife in its sheath?

Nice knife - looks a lot like the Roselli Hunter - the laminated blade might be an improvement o the Hunter :)

I had a Helle Fire...now my brother has it...and it was one of the better camp knives I have ever owned.

How big is the handle?

You have a Helle Symfoni.
Can you also review this?

Do you have other Helle knives?
Other puukkos?

Neeman, I'll take exact measurements soon about the handle. I got quite few puukko's. Few made by Pekka Kivimäki from carbon steel, few Martiini's and Mora 2000. You wish review from Symfoni, sure, I'll see what I can produce. I don't have other Helle's yet, I am thinking get few though. Millstone, Speider, Wind and Varg are those that interest me in Stainless section and in carbon steel section I am interested Helle Viking: Triple laminated carbon steel with full tang construction.

Very nice Helle!

The past few years I've come to appreatiate the Scandinavian knives more and more. With my hand problems, I've been edcing a little Busletto Balder as a suburban pocket fixed blade. That Scandy blade shape really bites into what you're cutting. And theres somethiing nice and traditional looking about most puuko knives; nice clean lines, a lot of choices in carbon steel blades, and wood handles.

Just given my lady friend a Busletto Balder.
She has put a leather thong on it and wears it as a necker
She uses it as her gardening knife

I sharpened the factory grind to EF, it is sharp....

There probably is not dedicated pukko / scandi knife thread it here? Which is kinda shame since puukko is one of the most tradtional knives there is, being older than most knife designs there is and has evolved one of the nicest wood working tools there is.

But I am bitparcial as I am Finn ;)

I'll see if I can put some puukko thread here with pictures of those puukko's I own. Something like: Share your puukko's with us :)

I like that Besseggen, just when i decide that i need another Helle...

What steel is the Brusletto Brukskniv?

Model is actually Norgeskniven,i made mistake by naming it brukskniv which means "work knife"(Norwegian),it is stainless carbon steel, Sandvik 12C27,hardened to 57-58 Rockwell C.

Nice knife, but I can't really understand why nobody seems to make some good wide shavings in their reviews here? Are you guys too afraid to actually use yours? :p
