I dont have a lot of tools so i thought about getting a nlank that i like...the helle eggen. How hard would it be to make and handle? Where would i even start? Im pretty new to all this.

There will be help, but if you read the stickies above you will find a huge amount of it and with that your questions will be more specific.

A lot of makers start out as "handle smiths" or kit builders, as it is a fairly simple and low cost way of customizing your own knife and getting an idea about one or two of the steps involved in making a knife and/or sheath.

The "stickies" as mentioned, will provide more than enough info to get you started and finished. Heck, even the instructions that come with your kit knife will likely be all you need. I'd say at minimum, you'll need a wood rasp (and/or file) or two, some sand paper in various grits, some two part epoxy, and then something to seal the wood after your handle is shaped.

Where you stop with the sand paper will depend on how polished you want the handle to be. And don't skimp on quality abrasive paper. A good paper will pay for itself.

Tip: shape the front of the scales before you glue them. You can't finish the front without scratching the blade after they are glued up.

I believe that the knife kit he's referring to is of stick tang construction with a slotted/milled guard. Still a good idea to polish/shape the top of the guard as needed before attaching to the blade.

Thanks guys. Yes it is a stick tang thats why i am a little concerned i know a full width tang would be easier.

I used 2 Helle Temagami to get my hands dirty and my feet wet. I used a G10 sheet to fill the bottom of the tang.

A lot of VERY talented knife makers in the Scandinavia are guys who put beautiful handles on blades that they get form a bladesmith. Some folks have problem with that over here for some reason, but you would be in good company.
