not being a craftsman, or knowing anyone who lives nearby, i was wondering how to handle a helle blank i received as a gift (some christmas gift, huh?) but i accidentally espied an old timer who lives just next door. his hobby was putting handles on busted kitchen knives and home-made knives cut from band saws. in one day he slapped this together:

handle is one-piece wood that was sawn and slotted to accomodate the long tang. the tang was pressed steady at the end by a steel pin, while overall tension is applied on the whole thing by a stainless steel ring at the hilt. same was done for the sheath. it's not a very strong set-up, i admit. i can't use it for carving or hard use. i plan to make it a desk knife; for display and light cutting. it may not be strong but if ever i need to use it, it's a scandi helle with shaaarp blade. thanks for looking.

I like it! I'll always have a soft place in my heart for Scandi blades, and Helle blades are awesome.

I think that you may find that a lot stronger of a set-up than you realize.

Wooden Moras aren't attached much differently and those blades keep on working.

Why not pull the blade, fill the handle with epoxy and then reset it? That'll make it sold enough.
