I went to a pretty upscale knife store in a small community that's more or less just a tourist trap. Their huge collection of knives from custom makers were for the most part out of both mine and my friends league, but my friend did buy one of these. I looked it over and ordered one for myself on line (for $25 less). I really like the look and feel of it. It comes with a really nice sheath too.

I'm interesting in opinions from others that own and use them about the steel used for the blade. The web site and the box say that it's "triple laminated stainless steel". "The core is made of high alloy steel, protected by two layers of tough stainless steel".

Helle makes a fine knife. I have one of their knives and have been pleased.

If I recall correctly, the Harding uses a stainless core (probably 12C27) as opposed to carbon.

They sharpen easily and should provide good use for you beyond the good looks.

Thanks Blues. Their web site isn't specific about the core steel. If like you say, it's 12C27 it should be good stuff from what I read when I looked it up.

Yes, 12c27 should be right. I have a nying 55 with the same steel. Good user quality. The HARDING IS ONE OF THEIR TRUE CLASSICS. They have made it in the same look sins I was a little pup in the early seventies. I have a pile of data on disigners, years and that like but I have mooved this summer and its packed away not to be found untill when my upper floor is ready to live in. I remember though that the designer of it is rather wellknown from the timeperiod. I think its one of the true classics of norwegian knifes together with helle 99 sportsknife and 55 nying and brusletto Hunter.

The only reason I got rid of mine was because scandi grinds and I just didn't mesh. The Harding is a great knife, Helles best in terms of fit and finish, and glamour.
